To explore the nature of being human with young people and their families through connection and with compassion toward collective regeneration.

Our future on this planet depends on it.

Hi, my name is Melissa Shadforth. Welcome to the virtual village. I hope you find a sense of place here with the collective.

How can I help?

Whether in the defined role of counsellor, mentor, coach, teacher, or trusted advisor, I connect with clients where they’re at and encourage them to be curious while exploring the nature of being human and finding a more integrated way of being.

I believe the relationship is core to creating a safe space for present moment awareness and reflection. While cultivating trust, confidence, and encouraging feedback as the interactive process unfolds, I support individuals, groups, and families to reconnect with their inner wisdom, develop insight, and ultimately become their own advisor.

Globally, The Collective Journey serves as a virtual village connecting parents and other compassionate people supporting the wellbeing of families with the intention of collective regeneration.

Locally, I share integrative counselling and mentorship experiences with young people and their families in nature, private practice, and schools in Hong Kong. I also share the teachings of Integral Yoga in prison, with foreign domestic workers, refugees, and through the counselling process.

This path followed 20 years in professional and financial services across Australia, the United States, and Hong Kong where I observed the influence of disconnected ways of being and unresolved childhood and adolescent trauma on the personal, professional, organisational, and societal level (side note, we’re continuing to feel the heat of this disconnection at the planetary level, literally and figuratively). This motivated me to deepen my professional knowledge on the nature of being human and combine this with my life experience to create opportunities for all ages to receive support without judgement and connect with compassion to self, others, and nature (spoiler alert, there is no “other”, we’re all in this together).

In addition to a Master of Counselling, I’m a Certified Integral Yoga Teacher RYT300 and Accessible Yoga Ambassador, Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional (CATP) with the International Association of Trauma Professionals and a member of The Psychotherapy Society of Hong Kong, Asian Academy of Family Therapy, Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia, and the Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy. I am also First Aid, CPR, AED, water safety rescue certified, and being a mother of three, ready for whatever challenge or adventure comes my way.

PS images on this website, unless otherwise stated, have been captured with my uber sophisticated photographic equipment: the iPhone.

The guiding principles on this journey include:

We are all connected in relation with each other.  What we do to another, we do to ourselves.

To feel confronted with another's suffering, feel motivated to relieve that suffering, and encourage non violence towards self, others, and nature through our thoughts, words, and actions.

We can only be responsible for our way of being.  Yet an individual regenerates in collaboration with others, not autonomously. Collectively, we can gently shake the world with the intention of benefiting all and harming none.
